The Foundation's sole supported school in Nepal, Baan Prabhat, is located in the heart of Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, the largest Himalayan state in Asia. Baan Prabhat is situated on the premises of Shreega Vihar Monastery, a Buddhist stupa (shrine) and nunnery, in turn, located in an area of the city that represents a cross-section of both Buddhism and Hinduism.

OUR IMPACT

The Foundation has committed to a complete rebuild of the Baan Prabhat school in Kathmandu, which collapsed as a result of the devastating 2015 earthquake, and where students and teachers are currently relegated to uncomfortable temporary classrooms. Supplementing the Foundation's contribution in Nepal, it has also made possible the purchase of school supplies for an orphanage outside of the city. In addition to major building and infrastructure projects funded by the Foundation, Gate 1 invites tour passengers, who visit our schools as part of their itineraries, to bring small items that are needed but in short supply, to give to the school's students. In this way, Gate 1 Foundation is able to supplement its large-scale contributions with essential educational supplies, which students' families are often unable to afford, thereby multiplying our positive impact on communities.

On April 25, 2015, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Nepal. The epicenter, Gorkha, was in the mountains just 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu. The Gate 1 Foundation has committed to construct a brand new school in the town of Panuati per the preliminary plans shown.  Construction began in early December 2018

PANUATI BASIC SCHOOL

The existing Panuati school is over 100 years old and one of the oldest in the entire region. It initially started its classes in a rest house using very small class rooms, and limited amenities. There are presently 216 students, with 103 boys and 113 girls in total from nursery to grade 8 with the age group 3-14.
The Gate 1 Foundation is set to sponsor brand new construction using Earthquake Resistant Design.  Improving Life Through Education in a safe and suitable learning environment.
